Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Unity of Ukraine Oleksiy Chernyshov joined the meeting between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and leader of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany Friedrich Merz today, 9 December 2024, in Kyiv.
Among other things, they discussed the citizens of Ukraine who left for Germany due to the full-scale Russian invasion. The Head of State said that a visit of the Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of National Unity of Ukraine to Berlin was already planned.
In his turn, Oleksiy Chernyshov stressed that the newly created Ministry of National Unity of Ukraine would focus on supporting Ukrainians temporarily displaced by the Russian invasion both inside and outside the country.
‘First of all, I would like to thank Germany for its powerful military, humanitarian and financial assistance to Ukraine. Germany is one of the countries in Europe that temporarily hosts the largest number of our citizens. This fact underlines the importance of partnership between our countries, especially in times of war. It is important for us not only to preserve but also to strengthen our cooperation to support Ukrainians,’ said the Vice Prime Minister – Minister of National Unity of Ukraine.
As a reminder, the Government renamed the Ministry of Reintegration to the Ministry of National Unity.
