5 apartment buildings to be reconstructed in Kyiv region as part of project to improve housing conditions of IDPs

Together with the team of the Ministry of Reintegration, Vice Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk paid a working visit to the city of Irpin and the village of Horenka in Kyiv Oblast.

The reconstruction of houses destroyed as a result of hostilities is underway there. One house in Irpin will be built from scratch. The other four houses, two in Irpin and two in Gorenka, will be overhauled.

The project is being implemented with the financial support of the German Government with the assistance of the Ministry of Reintegration. The financial partner is the German state bank KfW. The project manager is the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Iryna Vereshchuk, together with representatives of the Kyiv AUC, local authorities, KfW and IOM, inspected the damaged houses and talked to the residents. They also discussed the details of the construction and its implementation schedule.

The Deputy Prime Minister also took part in local public hearings. The residents of these houses were able to get answers about the details of the construction.

The purpose of the working visit was, among other things, to establish communication between IOM and the citizens who had apartments in the destroyed building and will receive them in the new building for further cooperation.

A separate meeting was also held between representatives of the Ministry of Reintegration, IOM and local authorities to discuss specific steps for the implementation of each project in Kyiv region. They also discussed problematic issues that need to be resolved before construction begins.

In particular, they focused on the issues of demining and preserving the Banksy mural on the wall of a building in Horenka.

“I thank everyone who is working on the implementation of these projects. We must give people a roof over their heads as soon as possible,” Iryna Vereshchuk emphasized.
