Last year, the Humanitarian Fund for Ukraine (UHF) provided $181 million for humanitarian response

In particular, UHF has allocated $181.2 million to nearly 50 national and international organizations to support war-affected people in Ukraine. This is stated on the official Telegram channel of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Ukraine (OCHA Ukraine).

According to the report, funds were allocated in several stages during the year.

Thus, the first tranche of $52 million was allocated to implement the priority activities of the Humanitarian Response Plan for 2023. It funded critical activities in places with the most acute humanitarian needs.

Another $69 million has been allocated by the Fund to provide comprehensive assistance to the most vulnerable IDPs, people who have returned to their places of permanent residence, and people living in the frontline areas.

Funds in the amount of USD 60 million were allocated to implement the Winter Response Plan.

In particular, the funds were used to make emergency repairs to homes, provide people with solid fuel and heaters, provide financial assistance to pay rent and energy bills, and maintain and repair district heating systems.

In total, thanks to these funds, the Foundation’s partners were able to provide assistance to almost 3.2 million war-affected Ukrainians, including 1.5 million women and girls and more than 480,000 people with disabilities.

It should be noted that the UHF was established in 2019 as a tool for accumulating donor contributions and combining them into a single unearmarked fund. If necessary, the Fund’s contributions are distributed in an emergency and coordinated manner within the framework of Humanitarian Response Plans.

This mechanism allows for flexibility in allocating funds to meet unforeseen events or special needs. The allocation of funds from the Fund’s budget for emergency needs is approved by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Since February 2022, the Fund has been involved in responding to humanitarian challenges in Ukraine caused by the full-scale invasion.
