The occupation authorities in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, and Kherson regions have informed homeowners about the need to register their homes in the Unified State Register of Real Estate of the Russian Federation. This is stated on the website of the ZMINA Human Rights Center.
In other words, if there is no entry in the register or if the property is not used or paid for, it will allegedly be seized by the so-called municipal authorities.
Such statements have led to an increase in the number of cases when residents try to enter the TOT of Ukraine through the territory of Russia to save their property.
A number of Ukrainian human rights and civil society organizations have expressed their position on such trips, as well as recommendations for citizens who own property in the TOT.
First of all, it should be remembered that Ukraine will never recognize the seizure of real estate by the occupation authorities of the Russian Federation as legal. It will have no legal force.
At the same time, traveling to the TOT, although not prohibited by Ukrainian law, can pose a danger to the life and health of citizens. It is impossible to predict or prevent the actions of the occupation authorities.
Therefore, human rights activists recommend recording the seizure of real estate:
- Monitor what is happening to housing in the TOT of Ukraine and collect information about it.
- Check the data on the ownership of residential real estate. If necessary, contact the State Register of Ukraine.
- Contact the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine.
