The Government of Finland has allocated 2 million euros to support Ukrainian pensioners in the frontline areas

The financial assistance will be provided through a project of the UN World Food Program (WFP), which has been operating since August 2023.

According to the project, pensioners with low pensions living in areas of active or possible hostilities can count on financial support in the form of a supplement to their pensions.

Over the year of the humanitarian project’s operation, more than 360,000 pensioners have received payments. Thanks to Finland’s contribution, WFP has extended the program until the end of 2024.

In total, since the beginning of the full-scale war, Finland has provided €11 million for WFP humanitarian projects in Ukraine. EUR 8 million of this amount was used to provide food aid to Ukrainians in the frontline areas and financial support to the most vulnerable, and another EUR 1 million was used to demine agricultural land in Kharkiv region.
