Highlights for the week of October 28 – November 3

IDPs will be able to receive a subsidy for renting housing – the Government’s decision. IDP families who spend more than 30% of their total income on rent will be eligible. Read more about the terms and conditions of payments in the article.

The Government has adopted a resolution that will help stop foreign banks from blocking transactions of Ukrainian companies from the frontline areas. The draft act was developed by the Ministry of Reintegration. To read more about the changes, please follow the link.

The UNHCR has started paying the first tranche of assistance to vulnerable households in the frontline areas. It is a one-time payment of UAH 21 thousand for the purchase of solid household fuel. This link provides a list of communities where residents have already started receiving funds.

UNICEF will allocate more than UAH 203 million to prepare schools for the winter period. The initiative is being implemented under the patronage of First Lady Olena Zelenska. The project is the result of joint work of UNICEF, the Ministry of Reintegration, the Ministry of Education and Science, and the Office of the President of Ukraine. On October 30, a briefing on the humanitarian situation in Ukrainewas heldin New York for delegations of UN member states. During the event, Deputy Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories Oleksiy Bruslyk told international partners about measures to overcome the humanitarian crisis caused by Russian aggression.

On October 31, the Interagency Commission on the Application and Implementation of IHL in Ukraine and the National IHL Committee of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The document was signed by Acting Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories Anatoliy Stelmakh and Chairman of the National IHL Committee of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Andrew Murdoch. On October 30-31, a conference on the humanitarian dimension of the Ukrainian Peace Formula was held in Montreal. Its participants discussed the implementation of the fourth point – “Release of all prisoners and deportees”. The event resulted in the adoption of a joint communiqué. By the decision of the Government, the highest governing body, the Coordination Center Council, was established within the structure of the Coordination Center for the Treatment of Prisoners of War. Read about its composition and tasks at this link.
