Germany and Ukraine coordinate efforts to support housing projects

The Ministry of Development is stepping up coordination with participants in projects financed through the KfW.

To this end, Natalia Kozlovska, Deputy Minister of Communities and Territorial Development, inspected the portfolio of projects in the social infrastructure and housing sector during a meeting with representatives of the KfW.

The meeting was attended by Martin Breitmaier, a representative of the Cooperation Department of the German Embassy in Kyiv, and Lorenz Gessner, Head of the Representative Office of the German State Development Bank KfW in Ukraine.

‘The Bank is one of our key partners when it comes to housing projects. A review of the portfolio of such programmes is necessary to improve the efficiency of implementing joint plans of Ukrainian and foreign partners. The solutions we have developed as part of this discussion should form the basis for further improvement and scaling of these initiatives.

We look forward to continuing the projects, their effective implementation, scaling up and expanding funding opportunities to achieve sustainable results in the field of housing for internally displaced persons and social infrastructure development,’ said Natalia Kozlovska.

The meeting discussed projects implemented by the State Agency for Youth and Housing, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) and the Ukrainian Social Investment Fund (USIF). These programmes are aimed at creating conditions for providing housing for internally displaced persons and supporting the development of social infrastructure in Ukrainian communities.

For her part, Nataliia Kozlovska noted that the Housing for Internally Displaced Persons project achieves its goal of integrating IDPs into society. The Deputy Minister noted that one of the key areas of work of the Ministry of Development is to assist communities where IDPs live.

Based on the results of the discussion, the Ministry of Development will intensify coordination work with participants in projects funded through KfW. Memoranda of cooperation between the Ministry, NRC and IOM will be prepared for signing. These documents will define the key parameters of joint work.
