UNHCR presents housing assistance programme for Ukrainians to the Ministry of DevelopmentDeputy Minister of Communities and Territories Development Natalia Kozlovska met with representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). During the meeting, the UNHCR delegation presented its programme of housing assistance for Ukrainians affected by the war. First of all, it is about internally displaced persons.

“We are pleased to welcome UNHCR representatives to Kyiv. This is an opportunity to discuss our cooperation in providing housing for Ukrainians affected by the war and the work that UNHCR has already done to support our citizens. Undoubtedly, this area remains one of the priorities for the Ministry. In particular, in terms of supporting IDPs. As of today, there are 4.9 million internally displaced persons in Ukraine. These are people who lost their homes or were forced to leave their homes due to the hostilities. Most of them are economically active and able to adapt in a new place. Our task is to provide them and all other Ukrainians in need with the conditions to do so. We are constantly looking for ways to build affordable housing, continue compensation programmes for damaged and destroyed housing and work on a comprehensive IDP support programme. We are also grateful to all those who have already helped us in this regard. UNHCR is one of these reliable partners,” said Natalia Kozlovska. As part of its assistance, UNHCR works directly with local communities and implements three components:
- Instant Relief
More than 187,000 households have received repair kits and materials. The UN also supported the repair of about 2,000 social infrastructure facilities, including schools, kindergartens, hospitals, etc.
- Ongoing repairs
More than 37,000 households received assistance with housing repairs. Some of the houses were repaired on a turnkey basis, and some families received financial assistance to solve their housing problems.

This component also provided 270 modular houses for people with completely destroyed housing. In the future, it is planned to build full-fledged mini-settlements, including for IDPs.
- Repairs for IDPs

The component provided over 24,000 beds for IDPs. In addition, more than 2,000 families have become participants in the rental housing programme, and more than 570 families have had their homes completely renovated.
