Holding pseudo-elections in the TOT creates grounds for not recognizing putin as president of the russian federation

This has been repeatedly stated recently by Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk.

The Central Election Commission of Ukraine has also officially confirmed this information. In particular, the CEC Resolution No. 10 of February 23, 2024 states that:

“Any attempts to organize the preparation and holding of pseudo-elections on the territory of sovereign independent Ukraine by the authorities of the russian federation and their officials are illegitimate. And their results, if the votes of “voters” in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine are taken into account, will be null and void and will give grounds for non-recognition of the president elected in this way.

The CEC also called on foreign states and international organizations

  • not to participate in the observation of the process of the occupation pseudo-elections in the TOT;
  • not to recognize the powers of the illegitimately elected president of the russian federation, including his legal personality in international relations;
  • stop any cooperation with the aggressor state and its agencies, expel russia from all international organizations.
