On 31 March, the third anniversary of the liberation of Kyiv region, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a number of decisions to support the region’s recovery projects.
‘Three years ago, we faced a great war in the Kyiv region. From the first days after liberation from the Russian occupiers, we began to restore the region. As of today, 70% of all damaged facilities have been restored in the Kyiv region. This includes 21,000 restored residential buildings, schools, hospitals, administrative and infrastructure facilities. More than 17,000 families in the Kyiv region have received compensation for their damaged or destroyed homes.
It is very symbolic that today we are talking about the development, achievements and future of the region. We are reporting on the results of the reconstruction. Today, Kyiv region is an example of recovery not only for other regions, but also for other countries of the world,’ said Oleksiy Kuleba, Vice Prime Minister for Recovery and Minister of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine.
During the meeting, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to allocate UAH 1.5 billion to complete 44 reconstruction projects already underway in Kyiv region.
‘The new funding will allow us to complete work on a number of important projects, including the reconstruction of apartment buildings, shelters, and educational institutions. We will be able to show the results soon,’ commented Oleksiy Kuleba.
The Fund for the Restoration of Destroyed Property and Infrastructure also allocated funds to complete the reconstruction of the Champion Stadium in Irpin, a UNITED24 recovery project. The stadium will have its load-bearing structures strengthened, inclusive access to the stands provided, the power supply system upgraded, and the surrounding area landscaped.
In addition, UAH 25.1 million was reallocated to complete the construction of 8 apartment buildings from previously allocated funds. Prior to this, UNITED24 had already restored 10 houses in Borodyanka, Irpin and Hostomel. The funds were reallocated because the work on these sites was completed quickly and efficiently, which helped save money.
‘We are already talking about the development, achievements and future of the region. Three years ago, we were starting from scratch – clearing rubble, demining, laying gas, electricity and communications from scratch, and recording the destruction.
During this time, more than 500 international delegations visited the region and saw not only the scale of the destruction but also the strength of the recovery, which is becoming an example for the whole country,’ said Oleksiy Kuleba.
He also noted the cooperation of Kyiv region with international partners. One example is the unique Hansen’s Town project in Tarasivka, which is already home to more than 500 families.
‘Together with Mr Hansen and the Recovery Agency, we are developing a model for expanding this experience not only to Kyiv region but also across the country. We plan to implement municipal housing projects in 20 communities. The goal is to build housing for internally displaced persons, which will provide a roof over the heads of about 50,000 Ukrainians who lost their homes as a result of hostilities,’ said the Vice Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine.
