The premises of optimized educational institutions can be used to accommodate internally displaced persons

This was stated by Vice Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk during a live broadcast on ICTV. She explained that the transfer of such premises to communities could become one of the sources of housing for IDPs.

The fact is that many educational institutions have recently undergone optimization. These are schools, colleges, higher education institutions, etc. Therefore, some of their premises have been freed up, which can be used for conversion into housing for IDPs.

This issue was raised at a recent meeting with the Ministry of Education, which was instructed to submit relevant proposals.

For example, the transfer of three student dormitories in Drohobych to municipal ownership would allow the city council to allocate funds for their repair and provide housing for nearly a thousand internally displaced persons. Currently, there are almost 13 thousand of them in the city.

“Territorial communities are asking to change the purpose of such premises and transfer them for use. This way they will be able to reconstruct them into housing for IDPs. This may be one of the ways to solve the problem of housing for IDPs,” summarized Iryna Vereshchuk.
