The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in partnership with the Ministry of Reintegration, is seeking to increase the resilience of life support systems in the frontline areas. First of all, it is about energy and heat supply.
Electricity supply
The ICRC is supporting the maintenance of thermal power plants in Mykolaiv and Kherson, as well as Zaporizhzhiaoblenergo, which provide services to 245,000 consumers. This helps ensure the smooth operation of important institutions, including hospitals.
Medical facilities
25 institutions, including 7 hospitals, will receive heating equipment, stoves, food heating and storage devices, solar panels and power plants.
Emergency medical services and some institutions that have applied for help will receive 250 tons of fuel briquettes to prepare for the winter.
Project with Kharkiv Heating Networks
The ICRC is actively assisting Kharkiv Heating Networks to restore 32 MW of heat generating capacity. The project envisages the reconstruction of 13 modular gas-fueled boiler houses in decentralized parts of Kharkiv to provide heat to 100,000 residents.
As a reminder, households in frontline communities will receive cash assistance from the ICRC in the amount of UAH 25,000 to help them get through the winter. This program to prepare for the winter season of 2024-2025 is being implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Reintegration.
