The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is allocating an additional UAH 265 million to fund the Shelter program. This is stated on the website of the Office of the President.
The increase in the Shelter budget was made possible through the joint efforts of the Presidential Office, UNHCR, the Ministry of Reintegration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Reconstruction. This will allow the program to continue until the end of 2024.
Thanks to the Shelter project, homeowners who have accommodated IDPs for free have the opportunity to compensate for utility bills.
It should be noted that since January this year, UNHCR has been a financial donor to the government’s Shelter program under an agreement signed with the Ministry of Reintegration. Earlier this year, international donors provided more than UAH 615 million to support this project.
In total, almost 1.2 million internally displaced persons have benefited from the Shelter program since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Currently, about 65,000 households are participating in the program, hosting more than 160,000 IDPs.
