Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine Oleksiy Ryabikin took part in a meeting of the Kyiv City Defense Council.
The meeting was chaired by Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, and Vitali Klitschko, head of the Kyiv City State Administration.
One of the key issues discussed by the Defense Council was support for internally displaced persons in the capital.
Oleksiy Ryabikin stressed that despite its status as the capital and the availability of significant resources, Kyiv still lacks transit centers and temporary accommodation for IDPs. At the same time, such facilities operate in every regional center of the country.
“Kyiv is the capital of the country, but there are no conditions for internally displaced persons here. Although such places exist in every regional center. More than 400,000 IDPs live in the city — this is one of the highest figures in Ukraine,” said the deputy minister.
According to him, the city authorities must demonstrate leadership in creating conditions for the integration of displaced persons into city life.
“Kyiv has significant resources and potential. People who were forced to move to the capital are already contributing to its development. The city’s task is to create conditions for them to integrate and feel like full-fledged members of the community,” Ryabikin emphasized.
Following the meeting, the city authorities were instructed to prepare proposals within a week on determining places for the temporary stay of IDPs, as well as measures for their social integration into the capital’s community.
