Helvetas and the Ministry of Development discussed the possibility of introducing modular housing for IDPs

Natalia Kozlovska, Deputy Minister of Communities and Territories Development, met with Peter Bashe, Head of the Swiss organisation Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation in Ukraine. They discussed the possibilities of implementing solutions aimed at providing modular housing for internally displaced persons in Ukraine.

“The search for housing solutions for IDPs is one of the tasks of the Ministry within the framework of the powers we received from the Government earlier this year. We are constantly communicating with international partners, businesses and organisations about our needs in this area. The main goal is affordable housing solutions. This is not just cheap housing. This is a complete system that should provide people with a choice, different opportunities depending on what they need. We are grateful to Helvetas and other international organisations that are willing to cooperate with us to help those in need to get decent living conditions. We are grateful for the discussion of potential housing projects, such as modular housing. We will keep in touch and cooperate to achieve results as soon as possible. Moreover, other similar projects implemented together with partners have already been successful. Thanks to this, many families have already been able to get new homes,” said Natalia Kozlovska.

It is planned that as part of the modular housing project, the houses will be designed using environmentally friendly materials. This will provide long-term housing solutions in the communities affected by the Russian invasion.

In addition, such initiatives should contribute to the rehabilitation of housing stock and economic growth in the local area, while ensuring security of tenure, social inclusion and compliance with international standards. Employment and housing distribution should be targeted at priority groups, such as: IDPs, female-headed households, persons with disabilities (including veterans), and older people who remain economically active.

Such initiatives will increase the affordability, speed of housing deployment and its sustainability through the use of efficient modular technologies.
