Residents of frontline areas start receiving financial assistance to buy solid fuel

The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has started paying the first tranche of assistance to certain categories of people to prepare for the winter period. This is a one-time payment of UAH 21,000 to purchase solid household fuel for vulnerable households in the frontline areas.

About 20 thousand households will receive assistance under this tranche.

Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Iryna Vereshchuk expressed gratitude to the territorial communities and regional military administrations for their productive work on the formation of the lists of recipients.

“I am grateful to the CMAs and local governments for the prompt processing and compilation of the lists of recipients of assistance. This will allow households in need of support to start purchasing solid fuel in November and prepare for the winter in time,” Iryna Vereshchuk emphasized.

As a reminder, on August 21, 2024, the Ministry of Reintegration and UNHCR signed a memorandum of support for frontline communities for the next winter period. The agreement was signed by Iryna Vereshchuk and UNHCR Representative in Ukraine Caroline Lindholm Billing.

The total budget of the program is USD 37 million. These funds will provide over 70 thousand vulnerable households with solid household fuel.
