Svyatoslav Lyndyuk, legal adviser of the National Information Bureau, took part in a meeting with relatives of missing and captured defenders from the Territorial Defense Forces. The event was held at the Ombudsman’s Office.
Representatives of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Main Department of the National Police, the ICRC and the Armed Forces of Ukraine answered the questions of the relatives of the defenders.
They discussed the following issues:
- The ICRC’s activities and the processing of their lists;
- Russia’s violations of international humanitarian law, including the torture of prisoners;
- the involvement of military chaplains in the work with exchanged defenders;
- communication with investigators of the National Police of Ukraine;
- the process of forming exchange lists and other issues.
The representative of the NIB reminded the audience that the National Information Bureau collects information on the confirmation of Ukrainians in captivity from various sources, namely: direct confirmation from the ICRC, photos/videos from captivity (interrogation), testimonies of the released, notifications from the military unit, letters from captivity transmitted through the ICRC, for further processing and transmission of information to the Coordination Headquarters.
