Oleksiy Kuleba: Development of border crossing points is an important component in strengthening logistics and economic resilience of Ukraine

As part of his visit to Odesa Oblast, Vice Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine – Minister of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine visited the Reni Giurgiulesti checkpoint on the border with Moldova. This is one of the key logistics hubs connecting Ukraine with Moldova and Romanian ports.

Oleksiy Kuleba also held a meeting with representatives of the Infrastructure Restoration and Development Service in Odesa Oblast.

‘During the great war, the checkpoints became not only infrastructure facilities, but also a strategic part of our logistics. They provide a reliable way to transport goods, humanitarian aid and strengthen ties with partners

Thanks to the introduction of joint Ukrainian-Moldovan control, border crossing became 30% faster for cars and buses. Convenience for people and efficiency for business are our priorities. The development of the border is a contribution to our economy, national security and European integration of Ukraine,’ said Oleksiy Kuleba.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the work already completed at the border crossing points:

restoration of the administrative building, treatment facilities and water supply systems;

landscaping and modernisation of outdoor lighting;

creation of a ‘green corridor’ that reduces the number of stops for trucks travelling to Romanian ports.

The strategic tasks for the development of the checkpoints for the near future were also outlined, namely:

creating a service area for trucks;

increasing the number of lanes and building infrastructure with the support of the EU and the International Organisation for Migration.
